NAME: Shouto Todoroki
CANON: My Hero Academia
AGE: 15
APPEARANCE: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/bokunoheroacademia/images/e/e1/Shoto_Todoroki_2nd_Costume_Full.png
CANON POINT: End of chapter 114
BACKGROUND: http://bokunoheroacademia.wikia.com/wiki/Shoto_Todoroki/Synopsis
PERSONALITY: Never has the term “defrosting ice prince” been more accurate.
In order to understand who Todoroki is, it’s important to understand both who he was, and who he was meant to be. As the product of a Quirk Marriage, he was the “masterpiece” of the second-highest rated Hero, Endeavor, meant to be the one to surpass All Might after three previously failed attempts. As such, he wasn’t really allowed to have a proper childhood, treated as more tool than son, forced to watch his mother suffer for the mere crime of trying to protect him.
As a child, he reacted meekly to these abuses, with tears more often than anger. Until the day his mother was institutionalized for injuring him, at least. Todoroki’s pain blossomed into resentment and outright hatred rapidly at that point; he blamed his father for driving his mother over the edge, and that anger spiralled into a sort of obsession with his own personal revenge--becoming the top Hero without ever using his father’s half of his Quirk. Todoroki became someone who isolated himself, twisted up inside by his own rage and misery, unable to see past his single-minded drive to humiliate Endeavor. He was--forgive the pun--cold, aloof, and distant. Confident almost to the point of arrogance, and uninterested in what anyone else brought to the table, save the one person who clearly held some manner of connection to All Might.
It’s not until the U.A. Sports Festival--not until Izuku reminds him that his fire is his Quirk, not his father’s--that he’s able to even think about confronting those demons, and when he finally does, the change in him is astronomic. Although he still remains somewhat distant and detached, he softens considerably, and starts to let go of the worst of his anger--even taking on a temporary internship with his father’s Hero agency to take what he could from his father’s experience and #2 rank, so as to become a better Hero for his own sake, not just in a way to spite his father.
There’s a sense of loyalty to his class that was never present before; even as he’s working at his internship, he drops everything at the first sign that Izuku is in trouble, and we see that he’s been paying more attention to even the others as we learn that he’s been worried about Iida ever since his brother was injured by a villain named Stain. We see him pay forward the kindness that was shown to him in helping Iida re-find his fighting spirit in a critical moment, and we see his heated anger at the mere suggestion that helping someone in need had been the wrong thing to do.
His burgeoning willingness to open himself up to having personal connections manifests in smaller ways, too. He uses his powers to help everyone cook during the training trip to a forest lodge, even as Momo points out they could easily figure out how to start a fire on their own, and later participates in a mini-competition of whose dorm room at U.A. is the best despite being tired and wanting to sleep instead, because it was something they needed to lift their spirits.
He’s slowly learning to heal, to allow himself to have friends and honestly be a goddamn teenager in even the smallest of ways. But it’s still a process; Todoroki no longer actively distances himself or proclaims that he’s not in the class to make friends, but he still tends to default to keeping to himself, and tends to be quiet even when he is spending time with others. He skips out on the class’s plans to go to the mall together in favor of visiting his mother, and at the Provisional License Exam, he runs off on his own instead of sticking close like Izuku suggests.
Even with the brunt of the anger that was poisoning his ability to live life for himself instead of as an act of spite and rebellion put to rest for more productive pursuits, he’s still got a temper to him--and comparing him to Endeavor gets his hackles up like nobody’s business. He gets agitated and digs his heels in with stubbornness, unable to back down from confrontation to the point that he literally fails the License Exam, despite being one of the first to finish the first part of the exam and one of the students with the highest score up until that point.
Still, he’s working on it. Todoroki is someone who’s constantly trying to improve himself, ever since the Sports Festival. He isn’t always aware of his own flaws until they’re pointed out to him, or when he makes a big enough mistake for them to become obvious, but when they are, he’s quick to take the appropriate actions to amend his behavior--like when Aizawa points out that he’d taken on the entire weight of passing the final exam onto himself, steamrolling over his partner, or when he realizes after the Provisional License Exam how his resentment of his father caused him to act in ways that made others resent him. He’s learning, and growing, and turning into a Hero that might well become a contender for the top spot, but he’s doing it for better reasons, ones more like the ones he had as a child, before the hardships that clouded his vision with rage and bitterness and had once threatened to close off his heart permanently.
ABILITIES:
Half-Cold Half Hot: Todoroki’s hybrid quirk, which allows him to summon ice and freeze anything he touches with his right side, and release fire with his left side. He has a great degree of control over his right side, having practiced and perfected it his whole life, to the point where he can freeze a person to restrain them without causing any permanent damage. However, if he overuses his right side (without the use of the temperature adjusters in his costume), frost will gather on his own body, making his movements more sluggish and imprecise. Fortunately, he can use his left side to compensate for that. He can also use his right and left side simultaneously, though he’s not very practiced in that yet and attempting to do so slows his reflexes and general reaction time.
Endurance/pain tolerance: He’s able to take a direct hit from the full force of Izuku’s One For All and get right back up to keep fighting, even able to make an ice wall behind him while in the air so he doesn’t get thrown out of bounds. Later, he’s able to fight Stain on a nearly even footing even after being injured by several knives in his arm.
Quick-thinking, analytical: He’s able to tell that Izuku is in danger because receiving a text with location info and nothing more is out of character for him, and determines a plan to detect Aizawa’s location during the final exam by using his nullification power to their advantage.
Apparently, he’s really handy. He remodels his entire dorm room at UA to look like the one he has at home in a matter of just a couple of hours, somehow.
INVENTORY:
Hero Costume
HATHAWAY.
SUITABILITY:
Todoroki is a student at U.A. high, a school specifically tailored to the best and most capable potential Heroes. Not only that, but he is one of only two students at UA who was accepted via recommendations, instead of the standard entrance exam open to the public. He’s said to be the best in the class, with not only overwhelming power from his Quirk but combat skills supposedly already equivalent to many professional heroes. He also has great familiarity with crisis situations, having faced attacks from the League of Villains twice, fought the serial killer Stain in a life-or-death struggle one-on-one while Izuku and Iida were both paralyzed from Stain’s quirk, and was instrumental in recovering Bakugo from the League of Villains during All Might’s battle with All For One. Joining up with Hathaway wouldn’t be very different from what he’s used to facing already, and having his teacher as well as a fellow classmate already in the ranks will smooth the transition considerably. He’s not always the best at cooperating, but he genuinely cares about being a good Hero and helping people in need, so he would work hard to ensure Hathaway’s missions are a success.
INCENTIVE: He’d ask for Hathaway’s assistance in getting his mother out of the mental hospital, a legal divorce from his father, and set up with a job and apartment so she can start her life over.
SPECIALIZATION:
Bruiser
Todoroki has a powerful quirk, and everyone knows it. His father literally had him conceived because he wanted to create a Hero that could surpass the Symbol of Peace, All Might, and that no doubt informed his harsh training of his young son. Indeed, as Aizawa notes during the final exams in the first semester, Todoroki relies too much on his quirk, tending to brute force his way through situations because he’s powerful enough to. In the first combat training exercise, Todoroki told his partner to wait outside while he completed the task on his own, in a matter of minutes. Later, during the Sports Festival, he goes overboard in defeating Sero while angry at his father and fills the entire arena with a giant monolith of ice. In the final exam, he even intends to take on Aizawa on his own, despite the latter’s nullifying ability, and he’s one of the first students who express the intention to retrieve Bakugo after he’s kidnapped by the League of Villains.
Sentinel
Although his natural talents are most suited toward fighting, Todoroki is fundamentally a kindhearted person. As a young child, he cries to his mother about how he doesn’t want to become a person who bullies her with his power, like his father, to which she replies that he wants to be a Hero, and it’s okay for him to be one, because he wasn’t bound by his father’s blood. Being reminded of this moment is what finally allows Todoroki to release his obsession with rejecting his father’s power and thus humiliating him by succeeding without it; after being able to accept having his powers on his own terms, he becomes a lot kinder and gentler, going out of his way to help his classmates when they’re in trouble. In the conversation with the police officer after defeating the Hero-Killer Stain, he gets angry at the idea he should’ve obeyed the laws about not using one’s quirk in public without a Hero license when it would’ve meant people got killed, proclaiming that the job of a Hero was to save lives.

Hello. I'm looking for someone to spar with. I'd prefer it if you weren't Quirkless, but otherwise, it doesn't really matter to me what kind of abilities you have, as long as you don't mind things getting a bit rough.
Let me know if you're interested, or just come find me in the training room. You can choose the simulation parameters, if you want.
Thanks.
